St. James School Board opposes Everything Tax

At Thursday’s St. James School Board meeting the Board voted unanimously to officially oppose any Fair Tax legislation or balloting.

The Fair Tax, or Everything Tax, as it is referred to by the Missouri School Board Association and other educators’ groups, would replace state income taxes with a flat sales tax. MSBA believes that this would lower the amount of funding available for public schools.

“It means less money for schools,” said Kevin Whitener, a member of the board. “Who is in favor of less money?”
